A letter from a student, Febuary 2012
Hello
My name is Sysouvanh Litthachuch. First I want to thank ”Mr. Hans” – key to a better life for helping students in Laos, helping me to get a sponsor to support me studying at the Souphanouvong University for 5 years. In about one year I will finish my education.
I am very happy that someone will support me to study helping me to get more knowledge. This is a way to have a better job in the future.
I would like to give my thanks to Morten Rich Simonsen from Denmark who has been so kind to support me all the way.
It was very special for me to have a visit from him and his wife Lotte here in Luang Prabang. Together we went to visit my parents in Oudomxay province. My parents made a baci ceremony in our house asking Buddha to bless Morten and Lotte wishing them good luck, a long life and a good job. This is tradition in Laos to do so, when someone, who is special to you come to visit.
I feel so lucky and grateful for this to happen for me and I sall never forget their goodness to me.
.
Sincerely
Sysouvanh Litthachuck.

Mr Hans Organization:
The project
How can you help?
1. You can sponsor one specific student. Tuition for one year about 200 us dollars.
This might be supplied with more money for buying books, copies and extra courses about 150 to 200 us dollars more
.2. You can send an amount of your own choice providing us the option to pay for books and copies for students only having sponsorship for the tuition.
A student needs 3 to 5 years to have certificate. It would be convenient if you feel committed for a whole period to a sponsored student.
We provide mail contact to the student making you able to follow up about the learning process .
Our Luang Prabang office assist the student communicating to you if he is not English speaking.

DEH – 5 years in Laos.
Over five years we have had a project running about paying tuition and other study related items for poor students from the rural areas in the northern part of Laos. We claim: “Education is a key to a better life”
4 students have ended their studies 2 with English language 2 educated from School of Finance, Luang Prabang.
5 students are at university and school of finance studying now.
We have an office and a place for students to meet, we build up a network of students abroad. At the moment three Danish students have visited “our” lao students and learned about Laos. We hope the network will be grooving.
February 2011 one of our sponsors were visiting “her” student. The visit was a success and the sponsor could experience the result of her sponsorship.
It seems to be a tendency to visit the sponsored student. At Christmas 2011 a new sponsor come to visit Luang Prabang. We have arranged for the sponsor to travel in the mountain region visiting the parents in
the village where the student was born. The student participate in this travel and act as guide and interpreter. This is a new dimension for foreigner to visit the country.
All students in the project “Mr. Hans” help out to find new ways to fund money for other students. At the moment we are discussing export of wooden- art work, coffee and tea.
So far we have been working exclusively with sponsorships. This is an ongoing process – which means that you dear reader should be very welcome to take up a sponsorship if you like. |

Lao is a state in southeast Asia, member of ASEAN, borderlines to Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and China.
Previous Laos was a kingdom. It was influenced by France and became a part of French Indochina 1893. This continued until world war 2 where Japan occupied the country.
In 1949 it became an independent kingdom ruled by king Sisavangvong.
In the period where USA and Vietnam were fighting there too was fighting in Laos which lead to victory for The Pathet Lao party in 1976. The king stepped down and the country became Lao PDR (people’s democratic republic)
Only accepted political party in Laos is Pathet Lao

and Khamhoung at their visit in Tivoli
A students network is growing in Laos. The students in Laos a visit from Danish students travelling in Laos
Through the DEH work in Laos they got knowledge to the group and made contact.
The Lao students gave information about Laos and they acted as guides in world heritage Luang Prabang, and they changed experiences of studying in Denmark and Laos.
Three Danish students have been visiting us. We find it important to have this dialogue between students from different countries and we want this to happen even more. We still have mailing contact with the students abroad.
In the summer 2011 our duty manager in Luang Prabang was visiting Denmark and Sweden paying visit to the Danish students.
We would very much like to make this network to expand. – for help and support to the Lao students. | |
